Earned Media, is what most people know as news, an unpaid blog or Instagram post, or even Word of Mouth. But in marketing, Earned Media falls within the media matrix of Paid, Owned and Earned. It is considered the most trusted of the three media types as the avg. consumer will see information from an earned media resource (again, thinking a newspaper or blog post) as an unbiased opinion.
But as marketing has evolved, earned media started to look and feel very different, especially for those who have historically run the earned media game – PR Agencies. As both Josh and Jonathan previously worked at Edelman, the largest PR agency globally, they dive into the changes to earned media, the rise of influencers and how social media / paid social media completely changed the way everyone approaches this space.
